It’s Been Two Years

I was just reminded that next week is the second anniversary of the BookEnds Blog. Not only is it hard to believe it’s been two years, but it’s hard to believe I still have things left to say. I just want to take a minute to acknowledge all the writers and readers who have followed the blog and helped to make it a community. I know many of you read it to learn more about the publishing business, but you might be surprised to hear how much we’ve learned from you. Because of your comments we’ve made changes to the blog, the web site, and even some of our operating procedures. I’ve always worked hard to treat all submissions with respect and your comments remind me to do that on an almost daily basis.

I think about forty percent of the blog’s success is what we put into it and the other sixty percent comes from you—from your questions, your comments, and your willingness to come back for more. Thank you.

BookEnds will be closed Friday through Monday in observance of Memorial Day. We wish you all a happy Memorial Day and a relaxing and restful weekend away from writing, querying, and publishing.

We’ll see you Tuesday!

Jessica

  1. You did good. Being open to rants a few days ago might have been the driving force behind the Maass agency changing their policy. They now respond to every query, not just those they are interested in.

It was brave to listen to the rants. Thank you.

  2. I’ve been lurking here for a few months, now I’m coming out. Thank you for such an informative blog. Newbie writers like me need this desperately.

Congratulations on two years of great stuff!

  3. One of the big comments on ORION’s tribute to Miss Snark was the community it established. I have found that here. I have met many writers here, which makes writing seem so much less lonely of a journey.

Thank you for the time you put into this blog, and all your efforts to make each of us better writers, better queriers, and better clients. It makes a difference, not just for us as individuals but for the industry as well.

    Happy anniversary!

  4. Happy anniversary! Thanks for all the information you provide. I’m new to your blog but find I’m checking in every morning, I enjoy your post and your posters (as in commenters) you’re creating a nice community here.
Take the weekend off, no reading.

  5. Two years already? Wow, time really does fly when you’re having fun! Congratulations on creating such a successful forum for writers, pubbed and un-pubbed alike.

  6. Congratulations on your two-year blog anniversary. This is the first place I check each day. Great information for writers, pubbed and unpubbed, delivered with honesty and wit. What a fantastic service.

  7. Jessica, congrats on a wonderful 2 years of blogging! The BookEnds blog is a fantastic resource for AYUs. And as a client, I always like to stop by to see what you’re up to;)

I also think on a more practical level that if an agent is disciplined enough to blog every day without fail, she is probably as disciplined and professional in her business life, which you certainly are.

Btw, the blog has been given an award for excellence by Romance Round Table:

Congrats! Hope you have a great weekend.

  8. I can’t believe it’s been two years already. I lurked from the beginning but I don’t remember when I started commenting.

I looked back at some of the entries from the first month, and many of the aspiring authors who visited are now published authors. I’m sure the camaraderie and bang-on advice from Bookends helped them achieve their goals.

Your welcome message on June 1st, 2006 was my birthday so your subsequent anniversaries will be easy to remember.

Congratulations and I wish you all the best in the future.

  9. Martha read the announcements in the newspaper and whistled. “Tilley, another agent party. Maybe we can wear our Playboy Bunny costumes to this one.”

Tilley nodded and continued studying her Duds for Studs catalogue with a magnifying glass. “Hope it isn’t on bingo night. I can stand to miss the senior center crap, but I like bingo.”

“Tilley, it’s an agent party! Bingo can wait. Let’s go bake a cake.”

Good job, BookEnds. We all appreciate the hard work and help more than you know. Truly one of the best agent blogs around.

Um, ignore the old women, they are mostly harmless.

  10. Congratulations on two years!!!

But people actually stop writing and querying over the Memorial Day holiday? I find time off from the day job is one of the best times to get more accomplished…

    Oops.

  11. Congratulations on the anniversary! I’ve learned a lot from your blog and appreciate all the work that has been put into it to help the writers out there.

I look forward to your future posts!
