“A charming start to the new Bookmobile Cat series. Librarian Minnie Hamilton is kind-hearted, loyal, and resourceful. And her furry sidekick, Eddie, is equal parts charm and cat-titude.”—New York Times bestselling author Sofie Kelly

“Lending a Paw is a pleasurable, funny read. Minnie is a delight as a heroine, and Eddie could make even a staunch dog-lover more of a cat fan.”—RT Book Reviews

“On her way home one day, Minnie Hamilton is followed by a stray cat. She tries to shoo him away, but he’s not having it. He has chosen Minnie as his new human. Minnie isn’t about to argue with a cat. She names him Eddie, but she doesn’t realize what an important role a cat can play in a person’s life.

As Assistant Director of the Chilson Library in Michigan, Minnie is determined to institute a new program. Despite the library’s financial difficulties, she fights to have a bookmobile. A wealthy benefactor is willing to fund it and Minnie’s boss gives in. She excitedly takes it on its first run. Eddie manages to sneak on board, too. He fast makes friends at each stop the bookmobile makes, but Minnie is determined to leave him home next time as she’s afraid her boss won’t like a cat in the new bookmobile.

On their first trip, Eddie races off to a barn and discovers a dead body. Minnie is horrified to learn he had been murdered, but even more so when she realizes she knows the victim – her benefactor. Several people close to Minnie become the prime suspect in the murder. She decides to help the police in their investigation, not that they ask for her help but their investigation is moving way too slowly for her liking. When her own life is in danger, she realizes she may have been better off staying at home.

What a fun mystery! It combines two of my favorite things – cats and books. Eddie doesn’t talk and he doesn’t have any kind of magical powers, but he’s very smart and helps Minnie sort out the murder in his own way. He’s featured throughout the book and was as much a main character as Minnie.

This is the first book in “A Bookmobile Cat Mystery” series and I’m so looking forward to the next one. The characters blended well and gave the reader a good feel for a small town. It’s fast-paced and the mystery kept me guessing until the end of the book.
