Meet Rachel Brooks, Our Newest BookEnds Agent

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Just four days before I had a scheduled trip to Austin, TX I received a resume from Rachel Brooks, an agent who represents romance, young adult, and cozy mysteries and who was looking for a new home. She currently works remotely from Texas.
After an hour-long interview during which Rachel and I had such a good time, we both realized we forgot to ask a number of questions and forgot to order coffee. If I’m having so much fun I forget coffee, I need to spend more time with that person.
Rachel began her career as an agent apprentice to Louise Fury and has most recently spent the last three years with the L. Perkins Agency. She has learned from some of the best, and I’m thrilled she’s adding her knowledge of publishing to our already terrific team.
Fiction will continue to be Rachel’s focus here. In addition to an already established client base she is looking to represent adult romance, young adult, and select women’s fiction and cozy mysteries. Rachel joins Kim Lionetti, Jessica Alvarez, Moe Ferrara, Tracy Marchini, Natascha Morris, Beth Campbell, James McGowan, and of course Buford at BookEnds.
This is an exciting time for me and this agency I’m so incredibly proud of. I think my favorite quote so far is when Rachel said, “Some agencies/companies say they like to have fun or are a fun group, but often it seems like just an empty phrase, but you guys really seem to embrace it.”

Jessica, I have a question… I may be misreading, but when you say Rachel already has an established author base, does that mean she brings her existing clients with her to BookEnds? So when you sign with an agent it really is the agent you are signing with, not the agency? Or do agencies have differing policies on this (and if so, is that a question you should ask an agent before signing)? Thank you!
There are a lot of ways an agent can come in with a client base. It really differs.

I’m not actively seeking inspirational, but Jessica Alvarez does have inspirational authors. If you’ve already tried her though, feel free to send me your query. It’s normally not my cup of tea, but never say never!
