Name: Allison Martine Hubbard, writing as A.M. Hubbard
What you Write: Literary Science Fiction
Agent: Naomi Davis
Why BookEnds?

I knew that my debut novel, The Garibaldi Waltz, didn’t fit easily in any predefined box. I needed someone to see the same vision that drove me to write it, and Naomi Davis shared that vision. She’s that magic combination of enthusiasm and professionalism and I am so grateful to have her by my side.

What genres do you write? Read?

I love the place where science fiction and fantasy mingle, and some of my favorite works fall in that area. When I write, I gravitate towards science fiction, but have also written a contemporary romance series.

Plotter or pantster?

I could be wearing a ballgown and I’d still be a pantser.

Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?

Synopses are evil as they give away the juicy bits. Can I be succinct? Yes. Does a synopsis do any book worth reading justice? No.

Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board?  If so, what’s on them?

I have no control over the playlists when I write, because I usually have escaped to public coffee houses and someone else has their finger on the “skip” button. I prefer white noise when I’m creating, but will settle for music that’s familiar and comforting, like a warm cup of coffee, but not so engaging that I’m actually singing along. Nobody needs that.

Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?

When writing, any form of caffeine is acceptable. Salted caramel is my year-round choice, and, seasonal beverages permitting, a peppermint mocha is preferred.

When *not* writing, I enjoy a tumbler of bourbon. This also helps for interviews and podcasts.

Day or Night writer?

I’m diurnal. My brain turns off around 9 PM.

Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?

I’m AFictionalHubb1 on Twitter and a_fictional_hubbard on Instagram, but I’m on Twitter more than Instagram, mostly because I lack the ability to compose a “bookstagram” shot that doesn’t look like random items scattered and photographed. I’ve threatened to camp out in a knickknack store and try staging shots until the management asks me to leave.

If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?

Picking just one might be impossible, but to make sense of 2020, I’m going with Carl Hiaasen, as this year has been ridiculous and outlandish and I suspect he wrote the screenplay. He has some explaining to do.
