Please welcome author Elle E. Ire to BookEnds! I absolutely adore Elle’s beautiful romances and wild, high-stakes speculative fiction. – Naomi Davis

What genres do you write? Read?

I love to read and write science fiction/LGBTQ+ romance and urban fantasy/LGBTQ+ romance. I’ll also read pretty much anything else in the science fiction and fantasy genres, along with some non-speculative fiction romance if it’s LGBTQ+.

Plotter or pantster?

My writer friends have dubbed me a “plantser”, so, some weird combination of the two. I dream novel plots. I wake up some mornings with entire novels, from beginning to end, in my head, often complete with character names and bits and pieces of scenes including dialogue. When I go to write it, I’ll sometimes just dive in, and other times I’ll sketch out a few chapters at a time but never more than that before actually drafting them. If I do too much plotting, I feel like I’ve already written the novel and I get bored and end up abandoning it. I do much better when I let the creativity do the driving.

Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?

Hate them. I love writing query letters, though, so there’s that. Synopses are evil.

Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board?  If so, what’s on them?

I don’t listen to music while writing, but I do listen to music to spark the creative flow. When I’m working on dramatic scenes, I love to listen to Cirque du Soleil soundtracks. The vocals are done in a language I don’t speak, so I don’t find them distracting, and I get caught up in the emotions of the music itself. I also enjoy the Xena: Warrior Princess soundtracks. When I’m working on characters, I like what I fondly call “angry woman rock” which might include Pink, Alanis Morissette, Melissa Etheridge, and a number of other favorites.

Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?

White chocolate mochas from Starbucks when writing. Unusual craft beers when not writing. I especially love Breckenridge Vanilla Porter and Terrapin Moo Hoo Chocolate Stout. If I’m going for a wine, then I adore blueberry champagne. I’ve managed to work all of these into my novels.

Day or Night writer?

Day. I’m an early riser and I start falling asleep around 8:00 P.M. unless it’s karaoke night. Also, I find going to bed early gives me lots of time to think about story ideas before I drift off. I do my best character developing right before falling asleep.

Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?

Twitter — https://twitter.com/LisaIri

Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/ElleE.IreAuthor

I’ll interact on either, but I spend more time on Facebook.

If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?

Anne McCaffrey. She’s a hero to me, accomplishing so much in writing science fiction and fantasy at a time when most women didn’t do such things. I was planning to meet her at DragonCon one year, but I had to cancel my trip due to financial issues. Shortly after that, she passed away. I still regret not going.
