What book do you wish you had written, and why?
Now, I write YA contemporary romance. But if I had it in me? Lord, I’d have loved to have written THE BONE HOUSES by Emily Lloyd-Jones. It’s this brilliant #ownvoices YA horror fantasy about a gravedigger with an axe, a mapmaker with chronic pain, and an adventure to stop the rise of these zombie-esque creatures. I loved it! (Plus, September is the fall and Halloween time as far as I’m concerned, and THE BONE HOUSES is perfect for that!)
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
Baking cookies or watching either anime or 90 Day Fiancé!
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?
I’m currently reading GHOST WOOD SONG by Erica Waters, which, as a former violinist, is everything I need.
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
Kyoto in autumn, please!
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
“I really think that reading is just as important as writing when you’re trying to be a writer because it’s the only apprenticeship we have, it’s the only way of learning how to write a story.” – John Green
What’s your favorite piece of writing advice you’ve received?
Find your community. Going through writing (much less the query trenches) alone? Is scary. But it doesn’t have to be!
What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?
The warmth, eagerness, and determination. Emily and I clicked immediately. I am so excited to both have her as my agent and be a part of BookEnds!
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
I mentioned a bit ago about finding your community. Having a community when writing is important (as betas and critique partners and friends) are all a part of this process. But going into the query trenches alone? I signed with Emily on my third time through the trenches. I needed a support system, as does everyone else going through the trenches. Find your community, find your friends, hold onto them, and know that you aren’t alone in this! Good luck!
