Tell us a bit about your writing process. Where do you write, and how often?
I wish I could say there’s a method to my madness, but there’s really not. My life and schedule can get so busy and sporadic that I write when I can and when inspiration hits. Occasionally I’ll set certain writing goals when I have something specific I want to get done, and I have a writing accountability group with some lovely ladies where we do writing sprints together. Those have been super helpful and make the process of planning and writing so much more fun.
Why did you choose the genre you’ve chosen?
I like writing both YA contemporary and YA fantasy, though I would say I’m most fond and have a special place in my heart for fairytales and fairytale retellings. It’s a genre I love to read, and when it comes to writing I love the idea of taking something familiar that people have a connection to and twisting it in a really unique way. I love that they can be new stories but still have little hints that remind us of our favorite classics.
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
Honestly, I’m probably in class, as I am a full-time grad student, but when I find a spare moment of free time, I like playing music, trading fun cat pictures with my friends, and playing games of murder and betrayal during game nights!
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?

What’s the last book you read?
I got to read an advanced copy of Cast in Firelight by Dana Swift, and I am in love with this story! It’s got magic, adventure, fun banter, and secret identities. I also love that it’s a fantasy inspired by South Asia, something I haven’t seen a lot of. I love seeing YA fantasy embracing new cultures and settings!
Plotter or pantster?
I am a definite plotter, I love making all sorts of outlines and notes to help me get into writing the story.
What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?
I am so excited to work with Rachel, whose enthusiasm for my story touched me in a special way. I could tell we would work great together from the first conversation and I am thrilled to have her as an advocate for my book. And I’m excited to be a part of an agency that truly feels like a family in the holistic way they support their authors.
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
There’s a lot of good advice out there, but one thing I think is important is to have your cheerleaders with you throughout the process. Querying can be a long and hard process with a lot of no’s before you find that match that is perfect for you, and through that you should have people who support you unconditionally and will help keep you encouraged.
