Why BookEnds? What I love about Bookends is the attention they pay to crafting author careers. The content and blogs are so learning based that it makes me feel comfortable being in a completely different milieu
What book do you wish you had written, and why?
The book I wished I had written is obviously Twilight. Second, I loved the entire concept and execution of Alyssa Coles’ “The AI Who Loved Me” It’s smart and oh so sexy.
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
You will find me using my Ph.D in Cultural Anthropology to make the world safe for difference, or making one-pot mom casseroles that always seem to require cream of-chicken.
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?
What’s the last book you read?
Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox. It was such good fun fantasy that doesn’t shy away from romantic elements.
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
I would write in a Lux cabin in the woods of Vermont.
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
“Language alone protects us from the scariness of things with no names. Language alone is meditation.”
-Toni Morrison’s-
What’s your favorite piece of writing advice you’ve received?
Chop wood/ Carry water. Your creativity requires structure and repetition.
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
Build a community or writers around you. We romanticize the lone writer typing away and pulling something beautiful out of the typewriter. But real writing takes a village.
Nikki, you’re amazing. I can’t wait to read all your books!
You are shining here. Will you just see my manuscript so confuse as my English is poor. Oh, it is book for love and others themes within it. Now my main problem is fees for editing, where to publish and who will take it if I have no money for publishing.
Will you have time to read just one chapter. Think over it as that what make me to follow you.
Hi Peter,
To traditionally publish your book, you shouldn’t have to pay any money up front. All money should flow to you, the author. We have several videos and blog posts on our YouTube Channel and Website to learn more about how authors are paid.
