I loved Jessica’s deep knowledge of foreign markets and the editors in foreign publishing! I felt like I could hit the ground running with translations thanks to her expertise.
Tell us a bit about your writing process. Where do you write, and how often?
I write best on my couch! I have 3 sons and they’re basically always around, so I pop on my noise canceling headphones and just go for it about an hour each weekday.
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?
Do you have any writing rituals? (e.g. burning a candle if you’re having trouble getting started at the computer or writing longhand first if you’re feeling uninspired.)
My books are set in Pittsburgh, and anytime I visit a cool ‘burgh location or attend a quirky event, I come home inspired to weave that into my books. Likewise, if I feel stuck, I go visit some of my favorite locations and then set a scene there.
What do you love about writing steamy romance?
Life is too short for fade to black! Ha! But for real, I love that this genre captures the full lived human experience and centers women’s pleasure. What a revolutionary concept! I so enjoy creating strong female characters who meet their interpersonal, professional, and romantic goals.
Why did you choose the genre you’ve chosen?
My mom! She inhaled romance. Before she got a Kindle, she used to buy multiple copies of the same book because she’d forget she already owned certain titles. I grew up sneaking her Elizabeth Lowell and Nora Roberts books and never looked back.
What is the hardest part about writing steamy romance?
Dealing with haters or people who think the genre is trashy. Sometimes people ask what I write and I literally watch their face fall when I proudly declare I write romance.
Do you get inspiration from any TV shows or movies? If so, which ones?
Last winter, I binged Ted Lasso and then absolutely HAD to write a soccer romance.
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
Somewhere deep in the mountains. Big mountains like the Canadian Rockies
