Why BookEnds? I love the diversity within BookEnds and I appreciate the fact that POC authors are welcome at BookEnds.
What book do you wish you had written, and why?
I wish I wrote The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho because it’s my favorite book of all time and it is a book that changed my life. I wish I wrote the book that had such a huge impact on my life and the lives of others.
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
When I’m not reading or writing, I’m usually designing some kind of architectural technology or interior design project. Otherwise I’m performing some kind of renovation whether it be flooring, tiling, carpentry or electrical.
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?
I am on Twitter @stc_smith and I am also on Instagram @sts_designstudio
What’s the last book you read?
The last book I read was Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. The first book was so good that I had to read the second one, and now I am highly anticipating the third!
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
If I could write anywhere in the world, it would be on a beach in Jamaica somewhere.
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
“Books are for people who wish they were somewhere else.” – Mark Twain
What’s your favorite piece of writing advice you’ve received?
My favorite piece of writing advice that I had received was from my sister. She said write whatever you like to write about and not what other people want you to write about. She said “It’s your story, so tell it how you want to tell it no matter how crazy or wild it seems.”
What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?
The thing that excites me the most about joining the BookEnds family is the fact that my stories can finally be heard and read. Being a black author can be difficult in the book publishing industry, but BookEnds appreciates my voice and I am very happy to know that there is an agency out there that enjoys hearing and producing stories from POC authors.
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
I would advise other authors in the query trenches to keep on querying and never give up because one day someone will want to read your story. Save all of your rejection letters and use them as fuel for the next query.
That’s good.
I love your books. Very relatable and give those from other cultures a look into the black community debunking a lot of stereotypes. You take away a lesson and even a task to make and try some new foods.
Love it! I’ll keep reading your stories to my kids for sure.
She sounds amazing! Her positivity really shines through. Can’t wait to see her future projects.
You are an amazing writer Sade. You have such great imagination. I can’t wait to read your books
