What you Write/Draw: I write and illustrate picture books!
Agent: Tracy Marchini
Why BookEnds? BookEnds is the type of agency that looks better and better the more you look into it. They’re a well-balanced professional group that has earned respect in the industry.

What book do you wish you had written, and why?

Probably Sam & Dave Dig A Hole, written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen. I love the way those guys think.

If you’re not reading, writing or drawing, what would we catch you doing?

I have a graphic designer day job. In my downtime, I get crazy. Sometimes I sit in the pink chair. Other times I sit next to my wife on the couch. And sometimes I just lay right on the ground. I know, I know. It’s a wild lifestyle.

Where can readers find you on the web and social media?

My website is kleynillustration.com. I’m on Twitter and Instagram @timothykleyn. I also have a Facebook page @kleynillustration.

What’s the last book you read?

The Breaking News by Sarah Lynne Reul

If money were no object, what would be your dream writing/drawing location?

Really, the location doesn’t matter much. I am content doing what I love and being with the one I love.

What’s your favorite quote about reading, writing or drawing?

“To be making books for children is to be in a sort of state of grace.” – Arnold Lobel (the Frog and Toad guy)

What’s your favorite piece of writing/drawing advice you’ve received?

It was more of multiple people encouraging me than one specific comment. I was told that I was good and that I can do this. It meant the world to me.

What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?

Tracy is excellent, and I’m so excited to be part of such an awesome group. Let’s sell some books together!

What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?

If you’re getting any feedback at all beyond the standard rejection, that is golden. Keep trying. Your work matters. Value yourself and your work. Don’t stop creating. Ask questions. Personalize each query, and keep a record of your actions and plans. And do a lot of research. It helps a lot.
