First and foremost, Naomi Davis—that’s the tweet. But I also love how inclusive and diverse BookEnds is and how fiercely they look out for not only their clients but all querying authors. They understand the trenches are hard, and I’ve always found their blog series helpful.
What genres do you write? Read?
I write speculative/fantasy/gothic horror but make it sapphic!
Besides devouring anything speculative, I also go feral for non-fiction books that delve into weird nature or anything regarding black holes and how time isn’t real.
Plotter or pantster?
Pantster with a microscopic drop of plot (while attempting to be mindful of beats). I tend to get bored if I know where the story is going right from the start—I like to discover! (Besides, there’s always the magic of revision for making it seem like you knew what you were doing all along.)
Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?
Ugh, the worst. Harder than a query letter.
Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board? If so, what’s on them?
I can’t listen to music while I write but I always have a playlist I build as the story unfolds which I listen to ad nauseum whenever not writing. What’s on them? Well, that depends entirely on the story, but I can assure you it’s a high-quality mix of pretention and trash.
Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?
Coffee for writing; always. But when not: Brut Cava. Because we deserve treats. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
Day or Night writer?
Morning! My creative brain abandons my body in the late afternoon which I find fair and support. Boundaries, baby.
Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?
@valo_wing on both Twitter and Instagram for occasional nonsense.
