Rachel Brooks Always Stays Organized

  • By: Rachel Brooks | Date: Sep 15 2022

It’s time to get to know senior literary agent, Rachel Brooks! We’re drawing to a close on our meet-the-agents summer, and we hope you’ve been learning a lot!

What is your agenting superpower?

Organization! This helps me stay on top of emails, negotiating deals, reviewing and tracking contracts, and more. I love my color coding system for my to-do list too. It’s so easy to know what the day or week has in store for me at a glance! (Off the clock, being organized also helps me keep my spice rack in alphabetical order. I do not miss the days of trying to sort through a cupboard to find cinnamon or turmeric that got shoved behind something. Simply go to the C or the T section!)

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I think since I am so Type-A people don’t think of me as the creative type. But I like to paint miniatures to unwind. It’s fun most of the time, but occasionally it’s more stressful than relaxing, since getting little details correct without the brush going someplace I don’t want it to is not easy. (Especially when painting eyes with pupils the size of a needle point!)

What are 5 songs on your playlist that you listen to on repeat?

I am one of those people who needs lots of silence throughout the day. I can’t effectively read or write emails with music on, and even doing hobbies like painting, I don’t listen to background music. While there are songs out there I like, “silence” is actually the more accurate answer as to what my daily playlist is.

What are 5 books on your reading list that represent you?

I’m going to name the first five books I spot in this room as I type, because otherwise I don’t know how else I’ll whittle my list down.

  1. Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Andersen
  2. Bad Girls Throughout History by Ann Shen
  3. Shop Cats of New York by Tamar Arslanian
  4. The Queen’s English by Chloe O. Davis
  5. The Rainbow Atlas by Taylor Fuller

…and of course, lots of lovely client books 😉
