The Negative Power of Words

I woke up this morning and immediately thought about how tired I was. It was a busy weekend with late nights and I was feeling it this Monday. And then I stopped myself. I watched the sun rise, realized that despite the foot of snow, today is the first day of Spring, and I changed my words.
If I spend today talking about how tired I am, I am damn well going to be tired. But if I look past my exhaustion (even typing the word drains me) at the sunshine, the melting snow and a to-do list that inspires and excites me, I feel good. While I may feel tired today, I’m going to refrain from saying it. I’m going to instead feel excited, inspired, and awake. Because I’m pretty sure no one ever says they feel awake, but what if we did?
Happy Spring!
Happy Spring! 🙂 I started the week out weird, too. To make the long story short, I’m someone who gets attached and wants to help, and often finds herself doing things for free for customers. Today was the day when they got so used to it, they began to demand my free ervices as if they were entitled to them. I don’t know how to react in such situations, and usually turn at 180 degrees. Now they are baffled I’m killing the cooperation.
Words are powerful but I think our attitude is even more powerful. I hope you have a great first day of spring!
So true! Our words shape our mindset, which helps shape our reality. Great post!
Spring is my favourite time of year :o)
I agree completely. You can talk your way into or out of lots of things. It’s like the latest research into pain – scientists have found your brain and thought processes have as much to do with pain as anything else. You can actually talk yourself out of feeling pain in certain circumstances. Amazing!
As a totally sideways thought, isn’t it funny how we don’t start new seasons on the same date? In Oz we start all our seasons on the first of the month (1st Dec summer, 1st March autumn, 1st June winter, 1st Sept spring). Weird!
