Tell us a bit about your writing process. Where do you write, and how often?
I have my own business, so writing is done whenever I can carve out the time. I was able to take a week off to write on our boat, and that was amazing, but mostly, evenings or weekends, if I have some time, I sit at my desk and start.
Do you have any writing rituals? (e.g. burning a candle if you’re having trouble getting started at the computer or writing longhand first if you’re feeling uninspired.)
Because I get to write so much less than I wish, I normally have less problem writing once I’m at the computer than getting that time to be there. When I do have to work something out, a walk with the dog or listening to music help.
What do you love about writing Romance?
It’s fun. I enjoy the time I spend in my own little world putting people together.
Why did you choose the genre you’ve chosen?
I don’t read that many romances, but any stories that I make up in my head always end up being about a romantic relationship, so that’s what I write. I think romance is a key component of any genre, but it’s front and foremost in romances.
What is the hardest part about writing Romance?
Telling people! There’s almost a stigma to writing romance.
What book do you wish you had written, and why?
Pride and Prejudice. I love romance, humor, great dialogue, and the Regency period. And really, what romance can top P&P?
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
A lot of it accounting, which isn’t really that sexy, but it does pay the bills. (And unlike Ben Affleck’s movie, we all aren’t trained assassins.) Otherwise, sailing on our boat, watching movies/TV, and shopping for bargains.
Do you belong to any writing organizations?
Not yet, but I hope to in future.

Ain’t She Sweet, by Susan Elizabeth Phillips for probably the third time. About to start Once Upon a Spine, by Kate Carlisle, the latest in a mystery series about a book restorer.

Somewhere warm. I live in Canada, but love the heat…
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
Butt in chair, hands on keyboard.
Plotter or pantster?
I’ve been a pantser, but I’m finding that once that dreaded synopsis is in place, it’s easier. I don’t need a step by step map, but knowing if I’m generally headed north or south helps.
Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?
Can I pick a middle ground? They’re hard, but once they’re out of the way, I’m free to have fun.
Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board? If so, what’s on them?
Because my first two books are about hockey players, my bulletin board has Anaheim Duck souvenirs tacked up, but that’s as far as I go.
Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?
Iced tea when writing, Ice wine to celebrate.
What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?
I feel like I may really be a writer now! 😉
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
Get some outside eyeballs on what you’re writing to see how your baby looks to someone else.
If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?
Georgette Heyer. My first favourite writer. I reread her books because I want to spend more time in the world that she created, and I’d love to meet the person who created that world.
