I’m thrilled to welcome Tricia Levenseller to the BookEnds team!

Tricia’s debut YA fantasy Daughter of the Pirate King released from Macmillan early this year, and the sequel Daughter of the Siren Queen releases in February 2018. I still remember reading her query for DOTPK in my slush pile back in 2014 and failing in love with her full manuscript right away.

While Tricia and I have been working together for a while now, I wanted to open the floor to clients who might not be on your radar, since we are both new to BookEnds. Hope you enjoy learning more about Tricia!

What do you love about writing young adult fantasy?
I love creating new worlds, magic systems, and teen characters that have to tackle adult problems.

Why did you choose the genre you’ve chosen?
It’s the genre I love to read most, and I find it the most enjoyable to write, too.

If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
Playing Overwatch on my Xbox One

What’s the last book you read?
A Court of Wings and Ruin. Sarah J. Maas is my hero.

If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
A ship in the Bahamas. I went on a cruise there earlier this year. It was paradise.

HATE! Ahem, I mean, I strongly dislike them.

Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board?

I have a Pinterest board for Daughter of the Pirate King as well as a “Pirate Aesthetics” board. I put fun pirate clothing, ships, ocean pictures, character lookalikes, and many other piratey things up there. I’ve also just recently started a “Sirens” board.

Do you get inspiration from any TV shows or movies? If so, which ones?
I find so much inspiration in historical and/or fantasy shows, such as Game of Thrones, Vikings, Poldark, The Vampire Diaries, and many others.

What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
Never give up! You never know which rejection will be your last!
