Name: Sarah Burnard What you Write: Romance (rom-coms and contemporary) Agent: Jessica Alvarez Why BookEnds? When I first started researching agents, BookEnds stood out for all the helpful resources they provide for the writing community, and for the friendly vibe of the agency.
What genres do you write? Read?
I write Romance (romantic comedy and contemporary), and read widely within the genre. I love the certainty that things will end well, that I’ll put the book down feeling good, whatever the characters have had to go through to get there. I enjoy cozy mysteries, too.
Plotter or pantster?
I’m a plantser. I need some idea of the beats and direction of the story, but mostly I wing it on a rough draft and make it shine/make sense in revisions.
Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?
Indifferent. Synopses aren’t as fun to write as a query/pitch, but they are pretty easy.
Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board? If so, what’s on them?
Sometimes I make a playlist. Usually I just listen to the Top 40 on repeat. I make aesthetics to break up the slog that can be revisions, and sometimes for brainstorming, and print them out and hang them where I can see them while I work.
Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?
Coffee is my life. And beer and bubbly.
Day or Night writer?
I mostly write at night, once the kids are in bed, but I’m lucky to work a seasonal job that gives me a few months off a year, so I can write when the kids are at school/daycare.
Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?
I’m on Twitter mostly, @SarahABurnard and I post on Instagram a bit.
If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?
I listen to Fated Mates podcast, so I’d love to sit down and talk all things romance with Sarah Maclean (and Jen), and probably come away with 800 more books for my TBR.
