Creating a Vision for How You Want to Feel

Each year I do a vision board, something I frame and set on my desk. Truthfully, however, my entire desk is surrounded by vision boards. My screensaver is a rotating group of pictures and quotes that inspire me, my bulletin boards are full of pictures, cards, poetry and book covers I love, and my calendar is an inspiration for places I’d like to travel.
This year my vision board took an unexpected turn. Instead of focusing on things I wanted in life like trips, money, or fancy cars I focused on how I wanted to feel. I included a picture of my family on vacation when we tend to be at our most content. I included quotes that inspire and words like powerful, peace, and joy. I also included a quote from one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost.
I look at these vision boards every day as a reminder of who I want to be and what I need to do to achieve those goals. Sometimes I even pull it out of the frame to add things or adjust depending on how I’m changing throughout the year. This vision is about me though and my dreams. It inspires me to keep going and proves to me that I can do it.
Most of this year’s vision board is new from last year, but there is one quote that I keep in all places, something that truly represents who I want to be and who I think I am. It reminds me that no matter how hard things might seem, “I am the storm.”
A storm can give relief to a parched land or destroy a beautiful habitat. The question is – Which one are you?
What a lovely idea to focus on how you want to feel. In today’s world it’s so easy to get caught up in what we need to have, I think we forget if we’re happy and content ew don’t really need anything else.
