Name: Elba Luz
What you Write: YA Contemporary
Agent: Emily Forney
Why BookEnds? I am lucky to have met Emily through the fellowship at BookEnds and through the fellowship I’ve been able to see the collaborative and skillful work ethic of the BookEnds community and it felt right to stick around! There’s no place I’d rather be than here with Emily!

What genres do you write? Read?

I’m a big reader of fantasy but a writer of contemporary. I don’t know why my brain prefers that, but it does.

Plotter or pantster?

Closer to a pantster! What I like to do is write out a query letter for a WIP idea. This helps me get an overall look of plot, themes, and stakes. If I can’t write a good one, I ditch the idea or revisit it. Once I have that though, I just see where my characters take me!

Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?

I wish I could say something cool like “Haha yeah, totally easy.” But I’d rather chew off my own arm then write one.

Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board?  If so, what’s on them?

Yes! I strictly listen to anime or video game soundtracks when I’m writing. (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, etc) This helps me focus and often kicks the writers block out from under me.

Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?

Iced espresso when writing, spiked espresso when not.

Day or Night writer?

I write best first thing in the morning. I like to start my day on a manuscript. I don’t like risking getting too tired throughout the day to write later. Then at night I play with scene ideas and sleep on them for the next morning.

Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?

I’m on Twitter @ElbalLuz often annoying my agent sibling, Kay, and on Instagram posting stories of my dog @ElbalLuz

If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?

Nora Roberts, my queen, if you ever acknowledge my existence, you would never have to personally explain a process to me like you did Debra. You’re my idol.
