I know BookEnds is well respected and Tracy’s wishlist really spoke to me. Having an agent that believes in my work is important, and I think Tracy does!
Plotter or pantster?
Definitely a plotter. I like to have a bulleted outline of my story with the ending and key moments laid out before I start writing the actual text. All those things could change once I’m going, but I feel a little lost without some sort of framework.
Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board? If so, what’s on them?
I have a playlist of moody piano music, with people like Schumann, Chopin, and Satie. It feels a little pretentious, but hey, writing is tough. I have to take inspiration wherever I can get it.
Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?
I think sitting in the sun with a beer and a notepad is a great way to get good writing done. But maybe if it’s raining I’d sit by the window with a cup of tea. I like to lean into the mood of the day. When I’m not writing, my favorite drink is a Moscow Mule.
Day or Night writer?
I’m a day writer, but I’m trying to become a night writer. I like the aesthetic of working late at night, but for now it’s mostly writing in the day, and drawing at night.
Twitter or Instagram? Or Facebook? Where can we find you?
On Instagram I am @pizza_sometimes, posting illustrations of pizza… sometimes. And on Twitter I am @streed_sam
If you could meet any author, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?
I would love to meet Maurice Sendak. He was funny in the interviews I have seen, and he seemed to have a lot of respect for his young readers. I remember an interview where he mocks adults who say “you mustn’t tell them this, you mustn’t tell them that.” I hope to express a similar respect for young readers in my writing.
