So, when Amity Steffen queried me and mentioned she writes Amish, I leapt on it and read two manuscripts of hers in a matter of days.They were everything I’d hoped for and more! If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
My oldest son has an antique collection that would make many lifelong collectors envious. I love searching for treasures with him. My youngest son plays baseball and that’s where you can find me most evenings in the summer.
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
I live in Northern Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes. In my dream world, I would love a private island with a writer’s cabin overlooking the water.
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
“I’m writing a first draft and reminding myself that I’m simply shoveling sand into a box so that later I can build castles.” Shannon Hale
Plotter or pantster?
I am definitely a pantser, but not necessarily by choice. I always feel it would be so nice to have a plot all mapped out, but whenever I try, I inevitably end up veering irrevocably off course.
Synopses, love them or hate ‘em?
Oh, how I hate them. I would rather write an entire book than a synopsis.
Do you have a writing playlist or a vision board? If so, what’s on them?
My playlist varies by book. For my vision board I typically find inspiration in photos of what I picture my characters looking like. In addition to characters I like photos that inspire visuals on location, hobbies, or any number of small details I might try to work into the story.
Drink of choice when writing? When not writing?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee…whether writing or not. Although, I do also love a good fruit smoothie.
What excites you most about joining the BookEnds family?
I am thrilled to join the BookEnds family. If I have to narrow it down to what excites me the most it would be the opportunity to work with Jessica Alvarez.
