Welcome to BookEnds, Laura Taylor Namey!

#MSWL works! 2.5 years later, I found the hoarding book I was looking for. Laura’s book spoke to me and the writing was so gorgeous. And Laura as a human is just as lovely. I can’t wait for the world to see what I see.
Tell us a bit about your writing process. Where do you write, and how often?
I get the bulk of my writing done at home, with a Miniature Schnauzer sitting on my feet, while my teen children are at school. I try to do something writing-related every day, whether it’s drafting, editing, blogging, or researching.
Do you have any writing rituals? (e.g. burning a candle if you’re having trouble getting started at the computer or writing longhand first if you’re feeling uninspired.)
I must have plenty of hot drinks at my desk. Since I can’t pound coffee for hours on end, I switch it up with tea, or hot water steeped with fresh ginger and lemon. When I’m stuck, getting away from the laptop and taking a walk or doing a short workout usually gets the thoughts flowing again.
What do you love about writing young adult?
YA gives me the chance to go back and camp inside the teen girl I used to be. I love the energy of ya. I also appreciate the focus on smart storytelling, and celebrating young people finding their way through risks, challenges, and opportunities.
What is the hardest part about writing young adult?
I am always mindful of my narrative and voice sounding authentic and current, without appearing forced or slang-heavy.
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
London, or a nearby English country cottage where I could quietly disappear, but take the train in to eat, shop, and enjoy the city.
Do you belong to any writing organizations?
SCBWI, and I’m very active in the PitchWars online community
Hey, Laura!! I can’t wait to read your book!
Thank you Miss Teresa, and likewise!
You go, Laura!
