Book Deals that Can Make a Literary Agent Jealous

  • By: admin | Date: Feb 03 2016

Following in Jessica Faust’s lead, I’ve decided to share with you a deal I saw today on Publishers Marketplace that made me incredibly jealous I hadn’t found this book first:

Benjamin Ludwig’s FOREVER GIRL, pitched as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime meets Room, told from the perspective of an adopted autistic teenage girl who’s plotting to get herself kidnapped by her birth mother, to Liz Stein at Mira, in a major deal, in a pre-empt, by Jeff Kleinman at Folio Literary Management.

I’m probably on record somewhere as having said that adoption is a tricky subject for me, but that wouldn’t have stopped me from requesting this book if it had been pitched to me. It’s cases like this that are the reason why I won’t say a certain topic will never work for me–there are always exceptions.  This sounds like exactly the kind of dark and twisty read that’s on my #MSWL.

Now excuse me while I go add this book to my TBR list.

Jessica, is it the comp titles that make you want to read, the one line precis or both?
