Name: Michelle Cruz What you Write: Mystery Agent: Jessica Faust Why BookEnds? One of my writing friends is repped by James McGowan, and she got me started watching the video blogs. James and Jessica seem so approachable, like the fun friends you have a drink with who are also really good at their jobs, and so it seemed natural when I started querying to have BookEnds at the top of my list.
If you’re not reading or writing, what would we catch you doing?
Early morning yoga, which enables me (I think) to more patiently wrangle my 11yo and 9yo; coaching girls’ lacrosse, watching hockey, football, or baseball
Where can readers find you on the web and social media?
If money were no object, what would be your dream writing location?
A cottage on the shores of Loch Ness.
What’s your favorite quote about reading or writing?
“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.” Ernest Hemingway
What’s your favorite piece of writing advice you’ve received?
Read. Honestly, my spouse probably thinks this is an excuse to buy more books. Maybe it is. But I know when I’m reading, it kicks my own writing up a notch.
What advice would you give to other authors in the query trenches?
Don’t stop writing. Querying can feel so consuming, but you can’t bank your career on one book.
What was the most important question you asked when interviewing agents?
What’s your vision for this book and for my career? (See, I DID watch all those BookEnds videos!)
